Cozy Neutral Christmas Decorating

Needing some inspiration for your holiday home decor? Tired of the traditional red and green? Take a look at what we're doing over here, repurposing some old decor and adding in some new to have a more Scandinavian/natural Christmas look with a lot of budget friendly options, and a splash of fun!

In past years, I have mixed the traditional red and green with a more natural approach to the holidays, and this year, I decided to get away from the red and green, and go more earthy and natural altogether because the traditional red and green is not my style. Living in a small apartment, it's important to have elements that I can mix with my furniture and year long decor to make our home feel seamless and cozy because it can be easy for small spaces to become overwhelmed and claustrophobic.

I found these wooden Christmas ornaments on Etsy, and loved the look of them. The not so sunny side is they can get pretty pricey per ornament. Etsy is the best location I have found for them, and you can search Hand Turned Wood Christmas Ornament to find what crafters are selling out there. We decided it would be fun to get a couple this year, and start adding a new hand turned ornament each year as our own family tradition. To fill up the tree, we mixed the wood ornaments with some earthy toned glass ornaments that were $10 at Target. We also added wooden garland from Etsy -

2. Our favorite hand turned wood ornaments - they are almost sold out, but a quick Etsy search yields other options!

3. Wood bead garland - you need approximately 2 strings of garland for a 6 ft tree. Here is a cute version from Amazon that is more than double the amount for only a few more dollars, so a much more budget friendly option - Click here

We also used the garland along with a fake fir garland, decorative pinecones, and a couple cute decorations including rustic wooden trees and a snow globe to decorate our entertainment stands. We also got this Scrooge and Marley sign on the stand with our record table.

  1. Same wood garland as above - Wood bead garland and budget friendly Amazon version

  2. Fir garland and pinecones can be purchased at any craft store - Fir garland - Pinecones

  3. Snow globe was purchased from TJ Maxx. Homegoods also has several options. I don't recommend ordering online because it is glass, but here are some similar option if you want to try - Option 1 - Option 2 - Option 3

  4. Rustic Wooden Trees

  5. Scrooge Sign - it is a bit pricey, but you can do an Etsy search and purchase a print for a few dollars that you can frame. I have one for sale in my shop that a lot of people love - Click here

For our shelf, we did another faux fir garland that we have had for a couple years, and added these little wooden houses, along with the house garland all from Target. Target still sells the garland. Stockings and stocking hangers are from two years ago at TJ Maxx, and I haven't found similar this year, but I linked similar ones from online.

  1. Fir garland

  2. Wooden houses - not online, but sold in Target's $ section for $5 while supplies last. Here is the similar ceramic version

  3. Stockings

  4. Stocking hooks

  5. House garland - not online, but sold in Target's $ section for $3 while supplies last.

Our dining room table got a whole makeover because Target is too good this year

The ceramic houses, table runner, placemats, and bowl came from Target. The decorative filler for the bowl curtesy of TJ Maxx, and the small wood trees came from Etsy. The faux fir branches came from a craft store, and the wooden beads in the decorative bowl came from Etsy.

5. String of beads - shop I used is taking a break, but this is similar

6. Wood trees - I also have a couple of cute ones from Terra Cottage

8. Table runner - no longer online, but sold by Threshold in the Kitchen section of Target
